A look at the Advantages of the 2024 Mazda CX-50 over the Subaru Forester
January 24 2024,
The 2024 Mazda CX-50 is a fairly unique vehicle in the popular compact SUV segment since its format and its rugged appearance make it stand out from most other models in its category. One of these other models is the Subaru Forester, which also offers off-road focussed versions. Here are some of the advantages of the CX-50 that could tip the scale in its favour when compared with the Forester.
A more modern deisgn
The 2024 Mazda CX-50 is a sleek and elegant SUV that embodies the latest design language introduced by Mazda in recent years. On the other hand, the 2024 Subaru Forester is an older design that is beginning to show its age, not helped by the fact that Subaru usually makes very little changes to its models between generations. This means that the CX-50 benefits from a more youthful and dynamic appearance than the Forester, notably because of its longer, lower, and wider body proportions. In addition, every version of the CX-50 displays rugged design elements such as black wheel arch moldings, blacked-out chrome and roof rails, while the Subaru only offers such features on the more expensive Wilderness trim level.
A more powerful engine
The 2024 Mazda CX-50 benefits from a more powerful standard engine than the Subaru Forester, and it even has a turbocharged option which is missing entirely from its competitor. Indeed the 2.5L Skyactiv four-cylinder engine used in the CX-50 GS-L and GT generates 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque while the only engine available in the Forester is a 2.5L Boxer four-cylinder engine that delivers 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. Buyers who want more power will be happy to learn that optional on the CX-50 GT and standard in the Meridian model is a turbocharged version of the same Skyactiv engine that increases the output all the way to 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft when using premium fuel. Another factor that helps the Mazda CX-50 be more enjoyable to drive than the Forester is its 6-speed automatic transmission which provides a more dynamic feel than the CVT transmission used by Subaru.
A better value
The 2024 Mazda CX-50 is a better value than the Subaru Forester since it offers more standard features for a similar price. Indeed, while the entry-level Subaru Forester is less expensive than the CX-50 GS-L, it lacks many of the features found standard on the Mazda, such as connected services for the infotainment system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, alloy wheels, an 8-speaker sound system, a heated steering wheel, a 7-inch screen in the instrument cluster, and the push-button start system. When equipped with a similar list of features, the Subaru loses its price advantage over the Mazda and even ends up more expensive in some cases.
A robust model designed for adventure
Subaru has built a reputation on capable vehicles that can go anywhere, but the 2024 Mazda CX-50 can be equipped with the same sort of features, making it just as competent on difficult terrains. Indeed, the Meridian edition of the 2024 Mazda CX-50 benefits from a host of features that make it even more rugged and adventurous than the other models in the lineup. These features include all-terrain Falken tires, 18-inch off-road alloy wheels, distinctive hood graphics, the more powerful turbocharged engine, and a vast choice of options that include a roof-mounted platform that can receive a special tent aimed at those who like to escape into the woods for a few days from time to time. Of course, very version of the CX-50, like all Mazda SUVs, comes standard with the i-active all-wheel drive system that increases capabilities on broken terrain, safety on slippery roads, and performance on dry pavement.
