2021 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2021 Subaru Forester: The CX-5 Gives the Best of Both Worlds

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 is an amazingly popular SUV because it provides the best in terms of safety and capabilities, but it also gives drivers plenty of power under the hood and style inside and out. Not many compact SUVs can offer such a well-rounded, complete product at a great price.

Here, we compare the 2021 Mazda CX-5 to the 2021 Subaru Forester.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 is more powerful

The CX-5 can be ordered with a choice of two state-of-the-art powerplants. The first one is a four cylinder, 2.5-litre engine that outputs 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque.  The second one is available in the GT and standard in the Signature and 100th Anniversary editions. It’s a turbocharged 2.5-litre engine that produces a segment-leading 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to a precisely calibrated and dynamic-driven 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Subaru Forester only offers one engine choice; a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre engine that produces 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. Not only is this engine less powerful and les responsive than the CX-5’s base engine, it is way behind the Mazda’s turbocharged option.

Moreover, the Forester is equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that provides a much more elastic experience than the CX-5’s sport 6-speed auto. This also gives the CX-5 a better towing capacity rating of 2,000 lb compared to 1,500 lb for the Forester.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 provides a well-appointed, stylish environment

Mazda is known for its stylish and comfortable interiors, and the CX-5 encompasses everything the manufacturer has to offer in terms of refinements in a modern package that rivals luxury brands. But it is also more technologically advanced.

For example, the standard infotainment screen in the CX-5 is a crystal clear 8-inch unit filled with features and applications. The Subaru Forester only has a 6-inch unit in its base models. The CX-5 is also available with the Centerpoint 2 Surround Technology and AudioPilot 2 Noise Compensation technology, which includes 7 channels of customized equalization and SurroundStage Signal Processing.

To top it all off, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is more accessible. With a base price of $28,500 compared to $31,108 for the Subaru Forester, it is much easier to own a Mazda CX-5. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
